The provider, Community Health and Eyecare Ltd, was registered in August 2012 and is a company built by Optometrists and Ophthalmologists to deliver eye services in the community. The target group are patients who can to be seen in the community, mainly outpatient work for all eye conditions. Services are delivered across the country in purpose built surgical centres, GP surgeries and via mobile units. CHEC Kings Norton is a converted building just off one of the major routes through Kings Norton. The service provides surgical services and outpatient appointments for NHS patients under local NHS contracts and a small number of patients paying for private treatment. There is a suitable car park and in addition, the provider runs a Home to Hospital service to collect patients and return them home after surgery if they are unable to drive.

Referrals to the service are managed centrally by a Referral Booking and Management Centre (RBMC) where patients are directed through choice to various clinics in the UK. The RBMC is supported by a team of patient coordinators and clinicians. The Kings Norton site shares a hospital manager with another local site who is supported by a regional manager. The hospital manager is also the Registered Manager, and staff are qualified and trained in ophthalmology and endoscopy.

This is the first time we have inspected and rated this service. We inspected this service using our comprehensive inspection methodology. We have rated both services as Good and CHEC Kings Norton as Good overall.
