The Rostra Clinic is a subsidiary of Rostra Healthcare Limited and provides treatment of symptomatic varicose veins.

The service provides specialist advice, diagnosis, treatment and aftercare so service users can make an informed choice about the best treatment for their varicose veins. Service users could be privately referred to the clinic following consultation with consultant vascular surgeons for surgery to their varicose veins under local anaesthetic. They could also self-refer themselves to the service.

The Rostra Clinic (Barnsley) is an independent provider registered to provide the following regulated activities:

• Treatment of disease, disorder or injury,

• Surgical procedures,

• Diagnostic and screening procedures,

Procedures are day case only and undertaken under local anaesthetic. The service treats a low number of service users yearly. At the time of our assessment the service treated five or six EVLA patients per month. This had significantly reduced from 125-150 patients per month prior to losing an NHS contract.

We last inspected the provider’s Sunderland service in May 2023. We rated it requires improvement overall, including in Safe and Well led. We issued a breach and told the service it must improve governance processes.

Updated 4 December 2025

We assessed the Barnsley service on 4 September 2025 as it had not been previously assessed. Our on-site assessment was short-term announced. We assessed 33 quality statements from the safe, effective, caring, responsive and well led key questions to inform the rating.

During this assessment we spoke to the manager and company founder; a consultant nurse and healthcare assistant (HCA) as well as service users. We reviewed eight care records, latest policies and all other available documentation.

At this assessment we identified breaches of regulations in relation to safe care and treatment, premises and equipment, and good governance. The service had made no improvements since the last inspection and only partially met one previous breach.
