Our view of the service

Date of Assessment: 15 December to 24 December 2025. Roby House Care Centre is a residential care home providing personal and nursing care to a maximum of 55 people. At the time of our assessment 51 people resided at the home, some people were living with dementia. We undertook this assessment because we received information which indicated people may not be receiving safe care when eating and drinking. We found people were assisted safely when eating and drinking and staff understood and followed guidance provided from other professionals. However, we did find some improvements were needed to monitor and ensure the quality of record keeping around other aspects of peoples care needs was maintained. People had detailed risk assessments and care plans in place. Changes were made as people’s needs changed and staff received the training they needed to support people safely and effectively. People received their medicines as prescribed and were supported to access healthcare and other specialist services. Staff worked with other professionals and organisations to ensure positive outcomes were achieved for people. Staff felt supported. The registered manager was fairly new in post and was open, transparent and receptive to our feedback. They demonstrated a commitment to ensuring people received high quality care.

People's experience of this service

Most people spoke positively about the support they received from staff and about their overall experience living in Roby House Care Centre. One family member told us, “Staff are brilliant. Nothing is too much for the staff.” One person’s family member did share some concerns specifically about their loved one’s care in relation to some missing personal items, preferences in care and some dignity concerns. This feedback was fully discussed with the registered manager who assured us they would contact the people concerned to address and resolve the issues.

We completed a short observational framework for inspection (SOFI). This is a tool used by inspectors to capture the experiences of people who use services who may not be able to express this for themselves. We observed positive interactions between people and staff. People were spoken to respectfully and staff demonstrated kindness and compassion when assisting people. Throughout our assessment we observed a relaxed atmosphere and people were not rushed when receiving care. People were encouraged to decorate and personalise their bedrooms in line with their preferences and had access to a range of activities they could take part in.
