Our view of the service

Date of Assessment: 6 November to 25 November 2025. The service is a care home providing accommodation, personal and nursing care to a maximum of 56 people of all ages living with physical disabilities, sensory impairments and dementia. At the time of our visit, 54 people were using the service. The care home was set up over 3 floors, providing residential, nursing and dementia care A registered manager was in post. We rated this service as good overall.

Managers and staff ensured people were at the centre of their care. People’s care plans contained person specific details including information about their lives and histories. The service was observant in people’s changing health needs and escalated concerns promptly.

The manager had a strong focus on continuous improvement and promoting a good learning culture, and people and families could raise any concerns.

The service had a positive and open culture. The management team were visible, actively involved and approachable. They gathered feedback regularly through surveys and other channels, and the overall response was positive. The service had suitable quality assurance systems.

People were supported by enough staff who understood their roles and responsibilities and had the right skills and experience. Staff treated people with warmth and compassion and protected their privacy and dignity; they treated people as individuals and supported their independence and preferences. The activities team engaged with people and encouraged them to take part in a wide range of activities within the home and people had regular opportunities to access the local community.

People's experience of this service

People and their relatives were very positive about staff, managers and their experience of living at the service. People said they liked living at Argentum Lodge and told us they felt safe. Comments included, “It is very good here” and “I can’t think of anything that could be improved.”

Relatives told us people moving to, and living at Argentum Lodge had been a positive experience both for them and their loved ones.

One relative said, “The staff at Argentum were welcoming, professional, and supportive, which immediately reassured me.”

Other relative comments included, “Argentum has a family feeling and there's no segregation, everyone is involved. Activities are really good. Everybody does such a good job.” and “[person] is settled, the biggest thing I can say is they call it home, if you had told me that a year ago, I wouldn't have believed it.”

We used a structured observation tool to assess whether people who could not directly tell us about their experience received good care. This approach showed staff responded calmly and respectfully to individual preferences. People were encouraged to be independent, and their choices were respected. Where people needed support, this was provided with a kind and caring approach, ensuring people’s dignity was maintained.
